My name is James Riley. I am 14 years old and have been working with leather for 3 years.
It all started with rocks. When I was 10 years old, I visited the Marion Mineral Show, where I met Rick Thomas a retired Rockhound with a passion for sharing his knowledge. He invited me to his home. I was instantly fascinated by his collection of beautiful rocks and the machines he used to cut and polish them.
Rick was also a leather crafter, and before long, I found myself not only working with stones but also learning to make small leather pouches to hold my creations. I began selling my rocks and handmade pouches at local craft shows and farmers markets, gaining experience and confidence.
Over time, my interest gradually shifted from rocks into leatherwork. I started crafting wallets, bracelets, and other leather goods, slowly building up my collection of tools and techniques. About 2 years ago, I discovered leather tooling and that opened up a whole new world of creative possibilities.
Today, I make a wide range of handcrafted leather items. What began as a curiosity has grown into a true passion.
